Gorilla Trekking in Uganda: The Complete 2026 Guide

Khenotoursandtravels · 17 July 2026

Nothing prepares you for the first moment a silverback looks you in the eye. Here is everything you need to plan it properly.

Permits

A Uganda gorilla permit costs USD 800 and must be booked months ahead for dry-season dates — we handle this for every booking. Your permit funds park protection and community revenue sharing.

Choosing a trailhead

Bwindi has four sectors: Buhoma and Ruhija in the north, Rushaga and Nkuringo in the south. All offer superb trekking; your lodge and onward travel plans usually decide the sector.

The trekking day

Briefing at 7:30 am, groups of eight per gorilla family, and a strictly enforced single hour once you find them. Hire a porter — it is the best USD 20 you will spend, and it supports the local community directly.
